چکیده

We present a triangular six-node shell element that represents an important improvement over a recently published element [1]. The shell element is formulated, like the original element, using the MITC procedure. The element has the attributes to be spatially isotropic, to pass the membrane and bending patch tests, to contain no spurious zero energy mode, and is formulated without an artificial constant. In particular, the improved element does not show the instability sometimes observed with the earlier published element. We give the convergence behavior of the element in discriminating membraneand bending-dominated benchmark problems. These tests show the effectiveness of the element. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. On the Six Node Hexagon Elements for Continuum Topology Optimization of Plates Carrying in Plane Loading and Shell Structures Carrying out of Plane Loading

The need of polygonal elements to represent the domain is gaining interest among structural engineers. The objective is to perform static analysis and topology optimization of a given continuum domain using the rational fraction type shape functions of six node hexagonal elements. In this paper, the main focus is to perform the topology optimization of two-dimensional plate structures using Evo...

Local Imperfection Effects on Thermal Buckling Behavior of Composite Fiber Reinforced Truncated Conical Liner

Thermal buckling behavior of truncated conical liner reinforced by laminated composite is investigated in the presence of a general initial imperfection. For this purpose, the method of virtual work and first-order strain-deformation shell theory are employed to extract equilibrium equations. To this end, a finite element code is developed using the 3D 8-node shell element with six degrees of f...

The MITC3 shell finite element enriched by interpolation covers

In this paper, we develop a scheme to enrich the 3-node triangular MITC shell finite element by interpolation cover functions. The MITC method is used for the standard and enriched displacement interpolations. The enriched 3-node shell finite element not only captures higher gradients but also decreases inter-elemental stress jumps. In particular, the enrichment scheme increases the solution ac...

A comparison between different finite elements for elastic and aero-elastic analyses

In the present paper, a comparison between five different shell finite elements, including the Linear Triangular Element, Linear Quadrilateral Element, Linear Quadrilateral Element based on deformation modes, 8-node Quadrilateral Element, and 9-Node Quadrilateral Element was presented. The shape functions and the element equations related to each element were presented through a detailed mathem...

Generation of quadrilateral mesh over analytical curved surfaces

An automatic adaptive quadrilateral mesh conversion scheme for the generation of adaptive refinement meshes over analytical curved surfaces is proposed. The starting point of the quadrilateral mesh generator is a background triangular mesh of the curved surface. By a carefully controlled process to merge two triangles at a time the triangular mesh can be completely converted to quadrilaterals. ...
